Belgian painter of historical and genre scenes.Engraver.

Pupil at the Academy of Mechelen and Antwerp (1829 -1833),he received the teaching of Mr.Van Brée.

Completed his training in Paris,where he received the adivice of painters P.Delaroche and A.Scheffer.

Back in Belgium,he worked in Mechelen and became director of the Academy of the city.

In 1836,at the Brussels Salon,he won two silver medals for works representing,one an“unhappy fanily”,the other“The death ofMarie de Brabant”.

Among the official orders he received was the“Arrival of the Crusaders in Jerusalem”(1842),a canvas designed to adorn the church of the Beverlo military camp, whose decoration had also been realised by FJ Navez and P.Van Brée.At the Salon of Antwerp in 1843,Wauters exhibited several painting of Italian life,as well as a painting evoking the life of Dante,works that had been inspired by the journey he had just made in Italy. Subsequently, the life of Italian painters and poets continued to inspire him.In 1855,he participated in the Universal Exhibition of Paris.At that time he lived in Brussels.
